We thought it’d be nice to introduce ourselves, so each week we’re shining a spotlight on a member of the Infinity Dental Web team.
Michael, our technical director, is taking action!
Job Title
Technical Director
What’s that like?
I get to work with the best tech team there is! I collaborate with our team to create and maintain standardized processes and documentation for the various tasks and projects we perform in connection with our client’s sites and web presence. I also maintain our task management and documentation portals and their supporting hardware and software.
What motivates you to work hard?
My family.
What was your first job?
My brother and I had a newspaper route when I was about nine years old. We would fold the papers early in the morning and then load them in our bike racks. We did that for about five years until the newspaper companies decided they didn’t want kids delivering papers anymore. They took our bike route from us and combined it with a car route.
What would you sing at Karaoke night?
My wife and I love Karaoke! We’ve gone to several Karaoke nights with a friend in our neighborhood. We’ve stayed up past midnight singing the night away. “Stars” from Les Miserables is a good range for me and that’s one of my favorites to sing.
What was the last movie you went to? What did you think?
The Martian. I enjoyed it very much and I was struck by the great expense, sacrifice, and effort that was made to save just one life (rightly so). Even to the point of risking the lives of five other people to save the one.
I was also struck by the dichotomy between this and the complete disregard for life shown by some toward life in its infancy and toward its end. It’s easy for most people to see that no effort or expense is too great in order to save a human life. And yet, in many cases, a double standard is applied and we end up picking and choosing the lives that are worth saving.
What’s your favorite family tradition?
My favorite family tradition is something called Family Home Evening. This is something my parents did faithfully while we were growing up and my wife and I have established this same tradition in our family. We set aside Sunday evenings for a spiritual lesson with scriptures and a gospel topic, and then on Monday evening we enjoy a fun activity like playing tag at a local park (we have four kids) or playing a board game, etc., and then end with a treat. It keeps our family close.
What three items would you take with you on a deserted island?
My family, a lifetime supply of food and water, and building tools. Yeah, that’s definitely cheating since “building tools” probably doesn’t count as one item.
Are you related or distantly related to anyone famous?
Sir Isaac Newton is my second cousin 11 times removed. Does that count?
A bit less famous, but more directly related, is William Brewster who came to America on the Mayflower and is my fourteenth great uncle. Even less famous, but even more directly related is Vinson Knight who is my fourth great-grandfather and was a notable leader in the early Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
How many languages do you speak?
Four—English, Portuguese, Pig Latin, and movie quotese.
Who knows you the best?
Amber, the love of my life and my wife of 14 years. I keep trying to surprise her (since she loves surprises), but she knows me too well and I’m never able to pull it off.
