We thought it’d be nice to introduce ourselves, so each week we’re shining a spotlight on a member of the Infinity Dental Web team.
Grahame, aka the Tech Genius
Job Title
Lead Technical Engineer
What’s that like?
Being the technical engineer for a company the size of Infinity Dental Web has been an amazing opportunity to develop my skills in developing. I feel that whatever technical ideas the team comes up with, we can build in house and do a terrific job from start to finish. When working for a large company, you don’t always get to see all aspects of a project. I feel working for IDW allows me to be a complete IT professional.
What motivates you to work hard?
As frustrating and challenging as programming can be, I never consider it work. I know the solution is always just around the corner so I crank up the radio and enjoy the drive.
What’s your favorite thing about your career?
I tend to get bored with something around the second or third time I am doing it. I love being a web developer because, as you can imagine, it never gets old. Most of what I learned last year is outdated this year. It is so cool when I can find a newer, better approach to a process, even if the old one worked just fine. As long as I can keep my work fresh, I really do look forward to going to work every day.
What would you sing at Karaoke night?
The sound of silence. Not the song, that’s literally what you would hear.
What’s the most unusual thing you’ve ever eaten?
I really am a big fan of haggis, blood pudding, or pretty much anything you can grind up and stuff into an animal casing.
Who knows you the best?
My girlfriend Dawn. We met in elementary school and she was my first crush. Decades later, nothing has changed.
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Sushi, good sushi. If I had unlimited resources, I’d be on that diet right now.
What was your first job?
My first job was scooping ice cream at a Haagen-Dazs in Palm Springs back in the 80s. We would get lots of famous people in there and the place was always packed. One time I saw Kurt and Michael Douglas standing in one of our long lines so I yelled out “I’m Spartacus!” to which the crowd responded with their own cries of “I’m Spartacus!” (If you haven’t seen the 1960 Kubrick classic you’re missing out). Douglas senior got a good chuckle out of it and tipped me $50.
Okay, now I have to go watch Spartacus.
