999 Out Of 1000 Dentists Don’t Know What A Google Hangout Is

If you’re a dentist, and you don’t know what a Google Hangout is – you’re not alone. In fact, in a thoroughly unscientific and fictitious study of 1,000 dentists, 999 of them hadn’t ever heard the term before. In that same study it was also found that all 1,000 of the dentists had heard of YouTube and that most of them watched a YouTube video at least once a week.
What does a Google Hangout and YouTube have to do with each other? Everything.
Let Me Explain…
To understand why a dentist would want to do a Google Hangout, three things need to be understood:
- YouTube is the second largest search engine on the Internet
- 90% of online shoppers find videos useful when deciding to make a purchase
- Google loves to promote Google Hangouts
YouTube Is A Search Engine?
Yes. And with more than 1 billion unique user visits every month, YouTube is the world’s second largest, just behind Google.
But doesn’t Google own YouTube? Why yes! Yes, they do.
Videos Affect A Consumer’s Purchasing Decisions
According to an infographic from Invodo.com, 52% of consumers say that watching product videos makes them more confident in their purchase decisions. Also, 3 out of 5 consumers will spend at least 2 minutes watching a product video. While not directly applicable to dental services, it is interesting to note that 1 in 2 purchasers are less likely to return a product after viewing a video about it. Even though your patient won’t be returning the mini implants you gave them, they may be less likely to be unhappy with them if they’ve watched a video about them from you.
Google Hangouts – Google’s Favored Child
Google has been working to compete with Facebook’s social platform for a number of years now. Google plus (Google+) is Google’s answer to Facebook and they are doing everything they can to make it more appealing to users than Facebook. Google Hangouts are just one of the many products that Google is packaging with their Google+ social platform in an effort to woo people away from Facebook, or at least to use their platform in addition to Facebook. The fact is, Google Hangouts are one of Google’s favorite Google+ products. As such they like to promote and feature their favorite child – in YouTube results as well as regular Google search results.
The Real Value
You may have noticed when searching in google that often times, depending on the search, a youtube video will be featured together with the other results shown for your google search.
This is where the real value of doing a Google Hangout becomes clear. People don’t go to YouTube in droves to search for “Dental Implants” for example. But they do go to google to search for terms like that.
What if your YouTube video was shown in the results for a search term you’re targeting? Would that have a positive effect on your marketing?
When you do a Google Hangout AND optimize it in the right way, that very thing can be very likely to happen.
