How To Please People With Social Media

In my last post I shared my fail-proof plan for effectively annoying people with a social media campaign. We’ll call this approach “Option B.” Admittedly, that strategy may not align with the marketing goals of most dental practices. So today we’re going to outline our strategy for the opposite result – “Option A” – How to please people with social media.
As The Rock (acting as Mr. Beck in “The Rundown”) says, option B – Annoying people with social media is “pretty much the opposite of option A.” Just like Mr. Beck, we recommend that you choose option A – Pleasing people with social media. So, let’s review the steps for how to annoy people with social media so we can clearly juxtapose them against the opposite steps.
Our first step to annoy people was to always assume that other people have nothing better to do than to read what you have to say. As I’ve mentioned in another post, time is the most precious asset that any of us have. It’s pretty safe to assume that if your time is precious to you, then the same is true for others. Respect your readers’ time by beginning with the assumption that they are just as busy as you are and that they don’t like to waste their time. Okay.. sometimes it’s fun to waste time. But if you’re going to waste someone’s time at least do your best to make it a little fun or otherwise enjoyable.
The second step from my previous post was to carefully avoid writing or sharing things that are interesting to your target audience. Once again, the opposite approach is the correct one – carefully plan the topics you will write about or the media you will share ahead of time and make sure they are RELEVANT and INTERESTING to your readers. Write an OUTLINE before you even begin to write an article. This can help to make your actual writing time more effective as well as making your overall presentation more cohesive. You can even take the outline idea a step further by creating a stockpile of article titles organized by topic. The combination of using article outlines together with stockpiling article titles can contribute greatly to the effectiveness of your social media campaign.
Option A’s third step was to overwhelm your audience with daily or even hourly messages from multiple social media sources. Obviously then our third step is DON’T overwhelm your target audience by inundating them with messages from you. This goes along with step number one – Respect people’s time. It also relates to step number two. When you have article outlines together with a title and subject stockpile, then you can create and more easily follow a publishing schedule. You can then increase or decrease the frequency of that schedule depending on your audience’s particular needs.
So, we have two options – Option A or Option B. Option A is to please your readers with social media and option B is to annoy your readers with social media. Option B is pretty much the opposite of option A. But I wouldn’t recommend that one. Just as Travis discovered, there really is no other option.
In reality, there is one other option.. you can have someone manage your social media for you. Infinity Dental Web’s social media package for dentists might be all you need to help you connect with your future patients.
Aside: If you haven’t seen “The Rundown” you’ll have to watch it now so that the references I’ve made to the movie make more sense. Sorry if you don’t like it.. I thought it was hilarious.
