What’s Labor Day about?

Did you know that Labor Day dates all the way back to the 1800’s? I think most Americans know they get the 1st Monday of every September off as one of the “six regular” holidays most employers recognize. But do you know why?
Like most of American History there is some disagreement as to who actually initiated the holiday. Some say it was Matthew Maguire, a machinist, and others say Peter J McGuire. Regardless, it was started to pay tribute to the contributions and achievements of the American worker. Labor Day officially became a Federal Holiday in 1894 after the deaths of some workers by US Military and US Marshalls during the Pullman Strike. Shortly after the strike ended President Grover Cleveland sent it to Congress to make the day an official holiday. It only took 6 days for Congress to make it a new law.
Labor Day has transformed from a day to celebrate the efforts of workers to most notelibly the end of summer or for fashionistas, the last day you can wear white or for sports fans, the beginning of football season or, for children, the start of a new school year. No matter how or why you celebrate Labor Day, Infinity Dental Web would like to wish you a safe and happy day!
