Generative Engine Optimization

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is a division of Search Engine Optimization that includes all the activities required for optimizing you for artificial-intelligence-assisted searches. This includes:

  • AI content strategy – adding to your website answers to frequently asked questions that patients are currently asking. This is the material that AI engines are looking for.
  • Technical enhancements to your website designed to facilitate the work of AI robots in crawling your site. These include the installation of an llms.txt file, updating the robots.txt file, installation of html tables and other technical enhancements.
  • Coordination with Local Search activities, reputation management, and social media platforms, since these are all sources used by AI engines for gathering data about your practice.
  • Staying abreast of all developments in GEO in order to continue to deliver state-of-the-art optimization as AI technology and consumer search behavior continue to unfold.

Some operators use the term AEO, or Answer Engine Optimization to refer to this service. It can mean the same thing, though Generative Engine Optimization has the connotation of a more complex strategy.

Please understand that GEO is a developing area and these GEO services are designed to position you for the future rather than to produce immediate results. AI-assisted searches, while they are growing in popularity, are currently most effective only for certain search terms where Google decides to include an AI Overview at the top of the search results page.
