I logged on to Facebook today and one of my friends posted a question about finding a dentist in her area. She is requiring a large amount of work done and would prefer someone who was affordable and could offer her a payment plan. So far she has already received six responses from her Facebook friends (including one from me, recommending one of our Infinity Dental Web clients).
A few weeks ago, my husband received three referrals in one day for his decorative finish painting company, Paintboy. Do you know where these referrals came from? Yes, that’s right, Facebook! Two of them came from his Facebook Business Page and one came from me (can you tell I am an active social media user?) Something as simple as a friend asking if anyone knows of a painter led to a new customer. Simple as that!
I wanted to share this with you because this is the type of scenario that happens every day in social media. For many, including myself, I trust the experiences and advice of my friends and would much prefer personal recommendations rather than searching blindly on the web. More and more businesses are aware of this and that is why social media is becoming more important than ever. I have only discussed Facebook so far, but referrals and leads come in every day from Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and the newest kid on the block, Google+.
So, the question I have for you is, “How’s YOUR social presence?” It’s not enough to merely set up an account or a business page, the key is to BE INVOLVED! By doing this, your patients will grow to see you more as a friend rather than just their dentist.
