The multiple website strategy – it’s time to scrap it

We have been telling clients for several months now that it is highly advisable, if they are trying to market their practices with multiple websites, to bite the bullet and combine those websites into one.
We have seen this through our experience. We have several clients who have had an existing website and have approached us to add another site to the mix. While we have done this in the past, we feel so strongly about this now that our policy is not to accept new clients unless they allow us to combine all their websites into one. We are not doing them a favor to try this now out-of-date Internet strategy.
To confirm our judgment, we decided to ask an SEO consultant, Casey Markee. Here at Infinity Dental Web, we have been taking a lot of webinars from consultants, especially since the Penguin update, to fully digest all the changes in the SEO landscape. Casey Markee is one of the best in the industry.
Here is how we phrased our question:
“Regarding multiple websites for one dentist. Is it true that in every case it would be advisable to put all the content under one domain name and retire the other domain name with a 301 redirect to a new location under the one domain name? We have some clients that are clearly penalized but we have a couple that are apparently not penalized. Can we assume that it’s just a matter of time before the others get hit?”
We hope this is clear. In no case do you get an advantage by trying to market your practice with multiple websites. First of all, combining them into one massive website gives more domain authority to the website, and it will give you more overall traffic. Second, Google has been trying to detect this practice, and when they do, they will penalize this strategy. They consider it manipulative. Listen to them. They will find you, eventually, and they will penalize you.
