Social Media: The Healing Media

It’s difficult to measure how Social Media affects people’s souls but the affects are there all the same. Those people who suffer from debilitating depression or an illness that may confine them to their home without much physical social interaction can attest to the sustaining and healing powers of social media. Even the “walking wounded” that are able to be out and interacting with people may be benefiting from some Social Media balm.
Say you are just feeling down or really struggling with an illness, just being able to read all of the encouraging quotes on Pinterest may be just the ticket you need to take you out of the darkness for a bit. Maybe you are in such a dark place that no placating quotes are going to shake you lose but an encouraging word or a kick in the pants from a friend or family member on Facebook is your ticket. A YouTube video of a sick child giggling with a puppy might be just the reality check you need to get you back on track.
Just as in the virtual world, different social media venues work for different people in different situations. It’s all in finding the prescription that works for you. When you are in a good place you switch to the healing facilitators role and you never know what that post you just broadcast is going to do for someone.
You don’t have to make an appointment, you don’t even have to broadcast what ails you, but you can still find the elixir that works for you, that is the spoonful of sugar that is Social Media.
