Mobile Sites Are In Demand

As introduced by Mike in his last post, I am one of three new additions to the technical staff here at Infinity Dental Web. I’ve only been here just over a week, but I’m already impressed with the company’s quality of work and devotion to providing clients with the very best and latest technologies. This is evidenced by my first assignment here. Right off the bat, I was designated to assist in the development of mobile websites for our clients. As noted by Mike, a major part of this assignment is to research the latest mobile developments to ensure our mobile sites are at the leading edge of technology.
It wasn’t too long ago, a business was ahead of the game if they had a decent website complete with a splash page and contact form. Fast forward to 2013 and the world of technology is changing at a dizzying pace. If your business doesn’t have a full desktop website, a mobile optimized site, and presence on several social media sites, you are going to be left in the dust. People expect to access information on the go and with the click of a button. They just don’t have the time or patience for outdated sites and technologies.
So in light of my new assignment, here are:
3 Great Reasons Why Your Business Needs a Mobile Site
1. More Than Half of All Americans Own a Smartphone

According to a survey done by the Pew Research Center, 56% of all adult Americans own a smartphone. The first iPhone was released only 6 years ago and now over half of us have switched over to some kind of smartphone. And you can bet those owners are using their smartphones to browse the internet. If that isn’t reason enough, those with higher education and income are even more likely to own a smartphone, with up to 78% ownership for those with an income of $75,000 or higher. Seems like a good demographic to tap into.
2. Mobile Users Expect a Fast Loading, Easy to Navigate Site
One study even showed that as many as 60% of mobile visitors will abandon a website if it hasn’t loaded after only 3 seconds! Desktop websites are bulky and simply not made to load quickly on such a small device. Usability is also a key factor as it is inconvenient to pinch, zoom, and pan around the screen to view a site that is not mobile optimized. What may look nice on a desktop or laptop is simply a nuisance on smaller screens. Websites optimized for mobile simplify the user experience providing only the most necessary information on the go.
3. Mobile Traffic is Growing Rapidly
In fact, according to research by Microsoft Tag, mobile internet will take over desktop internet usage by 2014! Already, as many as one half of all local searches are performed on mobile devices. Mobile users are using their phones to find business addresses and phone numbers. Local businesses can’t afford to miss out on this market.
