Judging from current news headlines and the recent CES 2014 show, we are a lot closer to having our lives run by computers than previously expected. From smart contact lenses to self-driving cars, smart toothbrushes to digital home security, the future is certainly going to be interesting. Are we ever going to have to get off the couch?
Google just revealed a smart contact lens that will help diabetics know when their blood sugar is getting low by measuring the glucose levels of their tears. On the other hand, company Innovega is on their way to producing a smart contact that will give you superhuman vision, by letting you enhance your focusing abilities beyond what the human eye can normally see. They are also creating a Google Glass-like product that they are hoping will replace smartphones in the future.
This kind of technology makes sense because in the future, we’re probably just going to have computer chips inserted into our skulls at birth. The smartphone was the first step in this process and since holding something in your hand is really too much of a hassle; wearable technology is the next practical step.
I personally am greatly looking forward to the self-driving car. I sincerely hope these roll out soon on a mass scale because it would be wonderful to not have to drive anymore. I know for a FACT that a computer can and will drive better than most people currently on the road, myself included.
It’s going to be a good time to be a hacker. As everything gets connected, cyber criminals are going to be able to hack almost anything, even refrigerators.
