A Coronavirus Story from My Neighborhood

My neighborhood has an HOA. I must say, though, that while many HOAs seem to attract nasty people to their boards, ours does have a kinder, gentler approach. Still, they do enforce the rules.
Well, those rules came up against the coronavirus pandemic yesterday. It seems that one of my neighbors a few blocks away had parked his recreational vehicle in his driveway. The HOA has been known to go to battle on that issue, since it is a rather nice neighborhood. So the property manager sent a violation notice to the resident. She got a response by email that she didn’t expect:
“This email is being provided to provide electronic and written notice in response to the notice of noncompliance that was received on March 25, 2020. The recreational vehicle cited in the non-compliance notice is currently being used to quarantine our 13-year-old daughter and will be removed when our daughter is cleared by her doctor. You are welcome to reach out to me personally on my cell. Thx again for all you do to keep our neighborhood looking amazing.”
The property manager emailed the board for guidance on how she should respond. Within minutes she heard back from a majority of the board, all agreeing that there should be no action taken.
Here’s more of the story about this family, which the father gave me permission to share. While they have ten children, he says that this daughter, Alex, is the “life blood of our family.” When she had COVID-19 symptoms for five days, they decided to get her tested. She had been tested yesterday, and they were waiting for results. He said that when she was screened they had to sign an agreement to keep her quarantined until they got results back in a few days. So they brought the RV into their driveway, let her live there, and have been communicating by face time and bringing her food. He said that the neighbors have been very sweet and her friends have put hearts all over her window.
These are the times we are living in. I suspect we will remember for a long time the feelings we have had going through this.
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing.
